EARLIER:
Snow has been reported across Cork this morning, after the forecast predicted rain showers and cold temperatures.
Met Eireann predicted that the weather would be “cloudy with scattered showers,” and sunny spells in the afternoon.
“A few showers may still be heavy, thundery and wintry on higher ground too. Perhaps a little chilly this afternoon with highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in a southerly breeze,” the national forecaster predicted.
The snowfall began in Cork city centre and North Cork just after 10am, with Cork people taking to social media to share photographs of the unexpected weather.
People in Cork city as well as North, South, East and West Cork all reported snow or sleet falling heavily, less than an hour after a sunny morning turned rainy quickly.
It previously snowed at the very beginning of March in 2018, while there was heavy snowfall across the country in March 2013.
Tomorrow is set to be more changeable.
Met Eireann said: "A mix of cloud and clear spells early in the morning but cloud will continue to build with a few isolated showers developing by midday. The showers will become more frequent and possibly heavy and thundery with hail during the afternoon but will clear away again in the evening. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with light to moderate breezes."
