Cork man accused of stealing two vodka naggins from same store on same day

A CORK man accused of stealing two naggins of vodka from the same store on February 27, went on to tell the court the following day that he is now 40 years old and did not want to be coming in and out of court for the rest of his life.

Roy O’Callaghan, who lives at an apartment at Bridgefield Close, Bishopstown, Cork, was arrested by gardaí and charged with stealing a naggin of vodka at 4pm on Tuesday, February 27.

The court heard that he then allegedly returned to the same store — Tesco on Paul St, Cork city— at 5pm the same day and allegedly stole another naggin of vodka.

Mr O’Callaghan told Judge Mary Dorgan this week he wanted to address his alcohol difficulties, particularly at this stage in the man’s life.

Sergeant Gearóid Davis said the gardaí were objecting to bail in this case. Defence solicitor Frank Buttimer made an application for bail on behalf of the accused.

Judge Dorgan granted Mr O’Callaghan bail on a number of conditions, to later appear at Cork District Court on the theft charges on March 12.

The bail conditions imposed on the accused require Mr O’Callaghan to sign on daily at Togher Garda Station, remain sober and crime-free, and keep a 10pm to 6am curfew.
