INTERNAL repair works at several city council owned flat complexes are set to commence before the end of the month.
At a council meeting this month, Sinn Féin councillor in the city’s South West ward Orla O’Leary sought an update on the progress of works at flats on Clashduv Rd, Sycamore Place and Togher Rd.
She was informed by the council’s director of housing Niall Ó Donnabháin that, following on from reports prepared regarding the local authority owned flat complexes at the three locations, “work is expected to commence on internal repairs (within apartments) before the end of February”.
“Work will commence at Clashduv Road before moving on to Sycamore Place and Togher Road.
“It is envisaged that the works will take four-six weeks per complex.
“Residents will be informed once a start date is finalised and each individual tenant will be contacted by the appointed contractor before they come to their apartment to do works.
“For this type of repair work, it is not necessary to relocate residents.
“Procurement documentation is presently being prepared to progress the necessary external works at Clashduv Road and Council will be kept informed of progress in this regard,” Mr Ó Donnabháin continued.
Ms O’Leary welcomed the update. “It is really positive news to hear that there’s progress in the regeneration of these flat complexes.

“Residents have long fought for these works to be carried out, so it is great to hear internal repairs are due to take place shortly.
“However, I am mindful that sometimes the devil can be in the detail.
“Due to the nature of the issues residents are facing such as cracks in the balconies, serious dampness and draughts, I have requested that the Housing Director provide councillors with a breakdown of the works to be carried out,” she said.
