Cork teenager Áine Ducey was one of six young stars to shine on the stage of the Abbey Theatre when she participated in a spectacular new production at the prestigious emporium.

The 16-year-old from Mallow gave a show-stopping performance in The Invitation, written by Paul Timoney on the stage of Ireland’s National Theatre in Dublin City.

The production followed six children from the LauraLynn hospice and told the tale of “cranky grannies, Mr Tumble and a special invitation” in a show which was described as “anything but ordinary”.

Áine’s mother Angela said it was a special day for her daughter as it was dream come true to perform on the Abbey stage.

“We all watched on with such pride, to see our star take to the stage is a moment we will cherish forever.”

LauraLynn Childrens’ Hospice senior play therapist and Abbey Theatre event co-ordinator Michelle Hartnett paid tribute to the performers and said their aim was “to foster an environment where creativity knows no bounds and where each child’s character is celebrated”.
