MUNSTER Technological University (MTU) has launched a free-of-charge, park-and-ride service for the Bishopstown campus.

The recently launched pilot service sees students and staff being encouraged to park in the reserved car parking spaces in the Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium (T12HNP4) and get on a private coach operated by Jerry O’Brien coaches.

The bus brings students and staff directly to the MTU Bishopstown campus and drops off at the 219 bus stop on Rossa Avenue.

MTU president Maggie Cusack said she is “delighted” to have the park-and-ride pilot project up and running.

The new service runs every 15 minutes from the greyhound track car park from 8am to 10am and every 30 minutes from 10am to 4pm, leaving the dog track on the hour and 30 minutes past the hour.

The bus will leave MTU every 15 minutes after and 15 minutes before the hour from MTU (219 bus stop on Rossa Avenue) from 10am to 4pm and will run every 15 minutes from the track and MTU again from 4pm to 6pm.

Those who intend to use the service are asked to park their car in one of the MTU park-and-ride spaces, present their MTU staff/student ID on the bus, and exit the bus at the MTU Bishopstown stop.

These designated spaces are located immediately to the left on entering the car park and the bus pick-up point is at the front of the stadium.

On return to the carpark, service users will again have to show their staff/student ID on the bus.

The opening hours for the car park at the greyhound track are Monday to Friday 7.30am to 6.30pm.

MTU has noted that the service is a pilot project and has asked users to “please bear with us as we get the service up and running”.
