WORK is due to start shortly on construction of a multi-use games area (Muga) on Grange Rd, which will be a “fantastic amenity for the local community” when complete.

The update was provided to Fine Gael councillor Shane O’Callaghan at a Cork City Council meeting this week.

David O’Brien, interim director of services in the council’s community, culture, and placemaking directorate, informed Mr O’Callaghan that the local authority will “request orders for work to commence on the design and installation of the Muga in quarter one of 2024”.

“It’s intended the Muga will be ready for use by the public before the end of quarter two 2024,” he said.

Mr O’Callaghan said the Muga will be a great addition in Grange/Frankfield.

“It will be located beside the Grange Rd entrance to the new pedestrian and cycle lane, which opened before Christmas,” he said.

“I have been pushing for both of these fantastic amenities for a number of years, and it is great to see them coming to fruition.”
