Spike in parking fines issued by Cork County Council

THE number of parking fines issued by Cork County Council increased by over 1,000 between 2022 and the first 10 months of 2023, this newspaper can reveal.
Information obtained under the Freedom of Information Act shows that Cork County Council issued 9,246 fines for parking offences between January and October this year.
This represents an increase of almost 1,300 on 2022, when the local authority handed out 7,956 parking fines.
It is not yet known how many parking fines were issued in Cork county in November or December this year.
If payment is not made in the first 28 days from the date the Fixed Penalty Notice was issued then the cost increases by 50%, according to Cork County Council’s website.
Payment of the increased amount will be accepted up to day 56 from the date of the offence.
Those who do receive parking fines can pay them online, by post, at Cork County Council headquarters or at their local area office.
The Echo recently revealed that almost 42,000 parking fines were issued by Cork City Council in the first 10 months of this year, along with just over 500 litter fines.
Information obtained from the City Council revealed the local authority handed out 41,994 parking fines between January and the end of October.
The data also shows that Cork City Council issued 516 litter fines in the same period, and collected €42,536 as a result of litter fines.
