Two arrested and two hospitalised following incident at Cork hotel

A man in his 50s and a woman in her 20s were both arrested at the scene for public order offences, while two men were taken to hospital for treatment.

TWO people were arrested and another two hospitalised following a public order incident at a Cork hotel at the weekend.

Videos which were shared on social media showed a large brawl breaking out at an event at the Rochestown Park Hotel in Douglas.

A man in his 50s and a woman in her 20s were both arrested at the scene for public order offences, while two men were taken to hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for the Gardaí told The Echo: “Gardaí received a report of a public order disturbance at a licensed premises in Douglas, Cork on Saturday night, 28th October 2023.

“Two males were conveyed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

“A male in his 50s and a female in her 20s were arrested at the scene for public order offences and conveyed to a Garda station in Cork City.

“They have both since been released without charge and files are being prepared for submission to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“Investigations are ongoing.”

A spokesperson for the Rochestown Park Hotel said: "The management of the Rochestown Park Hotel are horrified by the incident that happened in the hotel on Saturday night. 

"A popular social event that the hotel has hosted numerous times over the last five years was marred by a couple of groups of people who attended on the night. 

"The hotel will be fully cooperating with the Gardaí investigation that is now ongoing and hopes that this investigation will hold those responsible for their actions on the night fully accountable."
