The flooding was expected and earlier today Cork City Council had warned the public that “significant tidal flooding’ would occur as a result of forecasted super spring tides.

High tide this evening was at 6.01pm and Cork City Council had closed Wandesford Quay and Sharman Crawford Street in advance of this and said they would reopen the routes when the tidal flooding subsided.
Many people posted pictures on social media of flooding in parts of the city.
In an update on social media, Cork City Council said that water levels had started dropping across city centre within an hour after tonight’s high tide.

There were also reports of flooding in parts of the county including on the Strand Road in Carrigaline, in Bantry and in Timoleague.
Further flooding is expected in the city and county over the weekend as a result of the super spring tides.
Cork City Council has appealed to users travelling into the city centre for the Jazz Weekend to plan their journeys and give extra time to complete their journeys as several road closures and lane restrictions will be necessary.
“Diversions will be put in place to ensure traffic can still circulate. Any restrictions will be eased as appropriate. Road users are asked to plan their journeys and to travel with caution and follow diversional signage,” a spokesperson said.
The council said that the situation will continue to be monitored.
