Echo columnist shortlisted for prestigious food writing awards

FOOD writer Kate Ryan has been shortlisted for three awards in the Irish Food Writing Awards, for contributions she made to The Echo and EchoLive.ie.

Kate is a finalist in three different categories; the Food Writing Award, Writing on Irish Food Producers Awards and Spirits Writing Awards.

The nominations follow success in the awards last year - when Kate, who lives in West Cork, took home the Food Writing Award. The accolade was awarded to Kate for a series of interviews she did with Cork’s English Market traders, a six-part series, which ran in The Echo, where she spoke to them about how they navigated the pandemic and their plans for the future.

This year Kate has been shortlisted in three categories.

The Irish Food Writing Awards were established in 2021 by Suzanne Campbell and Paul O’Connor to award excellence in journalism, photography, podcasts and original online content on Irish food and drink. The 22 judges who choose the winners in each category include chefs and food writers such as Rene Redzepi, Tom Parker Bowles, Diana Henry and Dan Saladino. The awards are non-profit and funded by industry partners in Irish food and drink.

The awards will take place in the RDS on Thursday, October 26.

Kate, who has lived in Cork since 2005 and started Flavour.ie 11 years ago, is a regular contributor to The Echo features pages and has a monthly column in WoW! — called WoW! Bites. She is the main contributor to our Christmas Food Special in WoW! - this year's special supplement is out on Wednesday November 29.
