Status orange rain warning in place for Cork extended to 1pm tomorrow

The status orange rain warning that is in place for Cork has been extended until 1pm tomorrow Wednesday, October 18.
Spells of heavy rain could lead to localised flooding, poor visibility, difficult driving conditions and possible wave overtopping at high tide.
Cork City Council have issued a statement warning of potential flood risks.
Persistent rain will fall all day today and tomorrow morning with 60-70mm forecast over the 36 hours of the orange rain warning. Strong easterly and southeasterly winds – of up to 60km per hour - are also forecast from midday today which increases tidal flooding risk.
There is also a risk of fluvial ( river) flooding west of the city centre and in the city centre due to the combination of heavy rainfall and quantum of rain expected.
Flooding of the River Lee from Inniscarra to the Lee Fields is likely and the Rivers Curraheen, Shournagh and Bride are also at risk of localised flooding.
Localised flooding is expected at high tide this evening and tomorrow, Wednesday morning on low lying city centre quays such as Morrisons Island, Wandesford Quay, Union Quay and Lavitts Quay.
Cork City Council crews are on standby in the city centre and across the wider city.
Property damage is not expected but because of the heavy wind and rain, commuter visibility may be impaired so motorists and cyclists are urged to be extra cautious when traveling.

Cork City Council’s Flood Assessment Team met this morning and are due to meet later this afternoon.
