THE people of Glanmire came out in force to celebrate their hurling heroes as Sarsfield returned with the Seán Óg Murphy Cup this evening.
The successful Sars team were championed by the Glanmire faithful on their main pitch after 7pm.

The Riverstown outfit produced an incredible second half display to beat Midleton 0-21 to -19 at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday.
Sars had extra motivation on the day as they paid homage to club and Cork legend Teddy McCarthy, who passed away suddenly this summer.
Sars Chairperson Keith Mulcahy described the game as “incredible.”
“It’s incredible. The club in general and Glanmire area had a tough year as we lost Teddy McCarthy. Yesterday (Sunday) was for him.
“We went to the grave yesterday (Sunday) after the match to put the cups down. It was special because we feel that Teddy got us over the line.”
Sunday’s victory ended a nine year wait for the Seán Óg Murphy cup.

“We had a number of guys playing yesterday that the last time we were in a final were playing in the half time game.
“For the young kids yesterday watching that game hoping that they will be the ones in the future.

“It will give the club a huge boost and it was something that we haven’t had a for a number of years, and it was something that we really needed,” Mr Mulcahy said.
The Sars Chairperson praised the manager and the coaching staff for their hard work throughout the year.

“I think the management team were incredible all year. John Crowley and Diarmuid O’Sullivan have been special.
“For John, it was very sweet because he was there in 2010 and 2011, and he won a county in 2010 and he’s Sars to the core.
“Diarmuid came in and his two sons are playing with the club; and the players adore Diarmuid.”
