John Spillane stars in TG4 music show

CORK singer-songwriter John Spillane will feature on music series Comhluadar Ceoil this Sunday.

Comhluadar Ceoil, which is presented by Dáithí Ó Sé, made a welcome return to TG4, which is eagerly awaited on Sunday nights by viewers.

Ó Sé introduces his guests and chats to them throughout the show about their musical influences.

John speaks to Dáithí about growing up in Cork where his love of music began at school, where he learnt to play the tin whistle.

He reminisces about his teenage years in a rock band before he was drawn to song-writing, through his love of poetry.

John says he loves collaborating with other artists and he tells Dáithí how thrilled he is to be singing with Lisa O’Neill and proud that they are part of a movement encouraging performers to sing in their own regional accents.

They will perform ‘Passage West’ together, a song written by John about the town where he lives.

On Comhluadar Ceoil, singers and musicians from all over Ireland bring their unique blend of music to the stage, with duets and collaborations with some of the country’s most gifted performers.

There’s a change of pace when fellow Cork man, writer Conal Creedon, joins John for their musical and spoken word duet ‘Princes Street’/’Follow Your Nose’ and another brilliant collaboration comes when John performs with Sligo singer Niamh Farrell and celebrated pipers Máire Ní Ghráda, Rosaleen O’Leary, and Mary Mitchell-Ingoldsby.

The pipers also return for the show finale, a beautiful rendition of ‘I’m Going to Set You Free’.
