Cork and Dublin named among friendliest cities in Europe
Cork and Dublin have both been named in the top five friendliest cities in Europe by travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller, with Dublin also featuring on the worldwide list.
The capital was described as an "unsurprising inclusion" in the 2023 Readers' Choice Awards list for Europe's friendliest cities, placing third with a score of 95.37.
"Dublin is at ease with revelry," the magazine writes, adding: "Ireland's capital seamlessly combines its zest for life with nods to its radical history in the form of landmarks, museums, and the stories told by strangers-turned-friends met along the way."
However, beating Dublin to second place on the list was Cork, which earned a score of 97.
"Although Cork might be the Republic of Ireland's second-largest city, the port town is even more friendly than the capital, according to our readers.
"This place has a big personality, an exciting culinary scene, plenty of coffee shops, galleries, museums, and an iconic food market," the magazine writes.
Siena in Italy was named the friendliest city in Europe, described as a "pulsating city full of medieval buildings and lively café-culture".
Helsinki in Finland and Belgrade in Serbia rounded out the top five, placing in fourth and fifth respectively.
In sixth was Malaga, followed by San Sebastián (both Spain), before Dubrovnik (Croatia) in eighth, Bucharest (Romania) in ninth, and Ljubljana (Slovenia) in 10th.
In the list of of friendlist cities in the world according to Condé Nast Traveller's readers, Dublin placed fourth.
