Cork City Council is warning that some localised flooding and ponding is expected in the city this evening.
The local authority’s Flood Assessment Team met this morning due to a forecasted period of high astronomical Spring tides today.
This morning’s high tide at 06.44 am passed without incident.
However, the local authority has warned that this evening’s high tide at 19.05 pm is expected to cause some localised flooding and ponding.
“It is likely that some roads and parking areas along low-lying quays in the city centre may suffer localised flooding during high tide e.g. Morrison’s Island, Fr. Matthew Quay, Trinity Bridge, Union Quay, Wandesford Quay, Lavitt’s Quay, and South Terrace,” a spokesperson said.
The council spokesperson said that crews will be on standby across the city this evening, but it appealed to motorists to drive with care if travelling into the city centre tonight.
“Where necessary, road restrictions may be put in place to ensure smooth flow of traffic in impacted areas.
“As forecasted weather and tidal conditions are variable at this time, Cork City Council is continuing to monitor the situation closely,” the spokesperson added.
