A RALLY in support of and showing solidarity with Cork city library workers is set to take place this weekend in the city centre.

Pro-equality groups in Cork recently announced the ‘Cork Says Yes - Solidarity Rally with Cork City Library Staff’ in support of local library staff.

Organised by anti-racism group Cork Says No to Racism, the rally will take place at Cork City Library on Grand Parade in the city centre tomorrow at 1pm.

This event is also supported by Cork Rebels for Peace, a coalition of like-minded groups and individuals dedicated to making Cork a safe and peaceful city for all.

The rally is taking place in support of library workers, displaying solidarity with them after enduring a campaign of what has been described as “intense harassment by far-right individuals”.

A spokesperson for Cork Rebels for Peace said the rally will also acknowledge that far-right campaigns have also targeted LGBTQ+ people, teachers, children, and healthcare workers.

The spokesperson said that the event will celebrate the very best that Cork has to offer such as diversity, inclusion, culture, free access to information, and every citizen’s right to live peacefully and safely in Cork city.

At a previous rally earlier this month Sinn Féin TD for Cork North-Central Thomas Gould said:

“It is peaceful and a constructive rally where people are standing in solidarity with the LGBT and the Trans community, and those who chose to make Ireland their home.

“It is all about equality and respect, and that is the core message,” he said.
