A YELLOW weather warning is in place for Cork from 6pm today.

Cork County Council issued the warning on the advice of Met Eireann, saying people should be prepared for a sharp cold snap with sleet and possibly snow in some parts.

While the worst of the conditions are expected in Ulster and Connacht, Cork is also set to experience a deterioration tonight and tomorrow.

The cold snap is expected to last almost 48 hours, with the status Yellow warning in place from 6pm today until 3pm on Tuesday for the entire country.

Motorists have been advised to take extra care on journeys, with tomorrow's early morning commuters urged to give themselves more time.
