Douglas residents, including pensioners, have been forced to travel to Blackrock for services since their local post office closed following a major fire in the car park of Douglas Village shopping centre.

From today, however, Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection customers currently accessing their payments through Blackrock post office will now transfer back to Douglas post office.

The post office will open from Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:30pm, and Saturday 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Earlier this month, traders at the fire-damaged Douglas Village Shopping Centre were asked to return their keys to their businesses, so that builders can assess the units.

Centre manager Bartosz Mieszala told The Echo that the centre is on course to reopen this summer.
