New images of fire-damaged Cork shopping centre show extent of demolition works

THE latest images from Douglas Village Shopping Centre show the work to rebuild and restore the centre following last year’s fire is at an advanced stage.
The images show extensive work has taken place on demolishing the car park with the mall behind still standing on the western end of the complex.
Demolition works began at the centre in mid-November after heavy machinery moved on site.
Cars had previously been craned out of the car park.

The works, which are being overseen by Loftus Demolition, will see an area of the shopping centre that is equivalent to around 12% of the floor area dismantled before being rebuilt.

With a major rebuilding job still ahead, traders have been told it will be the summer before they can move back in.
