UPDATE: Road closed following serious crash at N22 Farran; Section of N71 also closed due to treacherous icy conditions 
Emergency services responded to a serious crash on the N22 this morning

Emergency services have attended the scene of a serious crash on the N22 near Ovens.

The crash happened near the Farran Well pub and emergency services have put road diversions in place.

Two people have been taken to hospital after the 3-vehicle collision. 

Fire crews from Cork city, Ballincollig and Macroom, two ambulances, an ambulance motorbike and rapid response car attended the scene.

Cork City Fire Brigade issued a post on social media, urging motorists to drive with caution.

Earlier today, a section of the N71 road through west Cork had to be closed because of treacherous icy conditions. 

The road was closed at the Bandon Bypass and motorists were urged to use alternative routes. 

There were also reports of an overturned vehicle between Killeady and Halfway Rd and icy conditions between Drinagh and Skibbereen.

A status yellow low temperature warning had been in place for parts of Ireland this morning.

Met Eireann confirmed temperatures dropped as low as -4C in some places.

A spokesperson for Met Eireann said the cold weather will stay for the next couple of days.

Temperatures will again dip below freezing tonight.
