At MTU Kerry's Nursing and Agricultural Society's win at the Board of Irish College Societies (BICS) National Student Awards were Caoimhe Collins (adjudicator), Simon Jennings, Peter Reid, Charlie Dunican, Emma Sheehan, Brooke O'Connor, Patrick McGrath, Edward Daly, and Evin Hughes (adjudicator).

Several Cork students have been recognised for their work as part of the MTU Kerry nursing and agricultural society (NAG), which was named best society in the charity & civic (small college) category at the Board of Irish College Societies (BICS) national society awards 2026.

Charlie Dunican (co-chairperson) from Kinsale, Emma Sheehan (co-chairperson) from Carrignavar, Patrick McGrath (co-public relations officer) from Whitechurch and Simon Jennings (co-treasurer) from Clonakilty were among the committee members of the MTU Kerry NAG society from Cork.

The award reflected on what was a successful year for the society and the continuous efforts of the committee.

The society raised €25,000 for their chosen charities Kerry Mental Health Association, Kerry Hospice Foundation and Recovery Haven Kerry.

In their acceptance speech, the NAG committee highlighted the importance of supporting local charities that provide vital services to communities.

Co-chairperson Ms Sheehan said: “Everyone unfortunately knows someone who has been affected by the issues that these charities raise funds and awareness for.

“Because of that, it is so important to us as a committee to support these organisations in continuing their incredible work.”

Fellow co chairperson Mr Dunican also reflected back proudly on what was a memorable year for the society.

“The level of engagement, growth in membership, and the support for our events and charities from both students and the wider Tralee community has gone beyond anything we expected.

“As a final year committee, having the opportunity to give back to the university, support upcoming students and contribute to the wider community is something we’re very grateful for.

“We’re immensely proud of what’s been achieved this year and hope to see the society continue to grow and succeed long into the future.”
