Plans approved for new nursing home at St Finbarr’s Hospital

A 105-room nursing and residential care unit is set to be developed on the grounds of St Finbarr’s Hospital in Cork.

The HSE has been granted planning permission for the development, subject to 26 conditions.

Some of those conditions include the provision of 78 new parking spaces, six disabled spaces, a minimum of 30 covered cycling spaces, and five electric vehicle spaces.

They will also have to pay a contribution of €460,355 to the council.

The development will see the construction of a two and four storey split level nursing unit and residential care unit, with the fourth floor comprising set-back plant rooms and maintenance accommodation.

105 ensuite bedrooms, including 30 for dementia residents, are to be constructed, along with associated resident accommodation including dining rooms, kitchenettes, day rooms, sunrooms, an activities room, quiet rooms, resident areas with a family overnight room, visitor's room, treatment room and a hairdresser salon.

There will also be internal courtyards and terrace spaces, as well as kitchen and laundry rooms, staff accommodation and office space.

Internal roads at the facility are set to be revised, along with some landscaping.

St. Finbarr’s Hospital on Douglas Road has a residential hospital facility on site which caters for older persons who require a high level of nursing and medical care.
