Cork Youth League's U17 Gussie Walsh Cup ties provide great excitement and plenty of goals

There was huge excitement across some of the Cork Youth League's U17 Gussie Walsh Cup ties, with good wins for Rockmount, Bandon and Mogeely. 

It took penalty shootouts for Macroom and Midleton to advance to the next round.

U17 Premier League side Rockmount, traveled to Ardath Park and beat a gallant Youghal United 6-1. 

The home side took a surprise lead through Brody Stone. However, goals from Colm Murphy, Cain Rooney, Padraig Olusoji and a hat-trick from substitute Calvin Blake sent Rockmount through.

U17 League 1 side Bandon caused a big shock when they dumped out Premier outfit Ringmahon Rangers 3-0 at Bandon Town Park. 

The home side took the lead through Dara MacFarlane in the 71st minute and six minutes added another through Samir Musa. 

They finished the game out when Matt Afonso scored with four minutes remaining.

There was drama at Macroom Town Park when Macroom beat Everton 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

The city side took the lead through John Ahern but goals from Sean O’Tuama and Ben McCarthy put Macroom 2-1 ahead on the half-hour mark. Everton equalised in the 35th minute when James Duncliffe hit the back of the net.

Both sides drew a blank in the second half and finished level 2-2. In the penalty shootout, it was the home side that took the spoils to go through to the next round of competition 4-2.

U17 League 2 side Mogeely also caused a shock when they beat U17 League 1 side St Mary's 3-1 at Railway Park. 

Dillon Murphy put Mogeely in front five minutes before halftime and six minutes into the second half, Jack Hayes doubled their lead. 

Jack Connolly had the home side three up in the 71st minute.

Isaac Boyd did get on the scoresheet for Mary's late in the game, but it is the East Cork who are in the hat for the next round.

Premier League side Midleton were given a huge scare when it took a penalty shootout for them to beat League 1 outfit Carrigaline United at Knockgriffin. 

It was the visitors who went ahead in the fourth minute through Olan O’Sullivan, but the Magpies levelled the game 1-1 in the 24th minute when Oscar Power scored. 

They went in front 10 minutes after the restart through Pablo Sanz. However, Carrigaline scored at the death to level the game through Ryan O’Connor and bring the tie to a penalty shootout. 

Colm Fitzgerald’s Magpies showed all their experience to win the shootout 4-2.
