Man arrested in connection with seizure of suspected cannabis plants in Cork city

Gardaí have arrested a man and seized €5,600 of suspected cannabis plants in Cork City.

Shortly after 11pm last night uniform Gardaí from Anglesea Street, assisted by the Armed Support Unit and detectives from Blackrock, executed a search warrant at a house on Nutley Road, Mahon, Cork.

During the course of the search Gardaí found two grow tents containing €5,600 of cannabis plants. 

The plants were seized along with equipment such as lighting, humidifiers, and thermometers.

The scene was also photographed by the local Scenes of Crime Unit. The suspected drugs will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

A man, aged in his late 20s, was arrested at the scene and brought to the Bridewell Garda Station. 

He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and has since been released.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
