TV documentary follows story of patient brought to CUH suffering a heart attack
That is the dramatic setting for the next episode of the documentary series Any Given Day: Cork University Hospital on RTÉ1 on Wednesday at 9.35pm.
CUH Registrar Dylan Finnerty has been in constant contact with Consultant Cardiologist Richard Tanner and Christy’s emergency situation.
Richard is on-call for such responses, and has made a decision to activate the Catheterization Lab, a specialised room with advanced imaging for the treatment of heart conditions.
Also in next week’s episode, we visit the Paediatric Allergy clinic in CUH, which is busy. Patients here are treated for a range of challenges including food allergies.
Eleven-year-old Ciaran was diagnosed with a severe peanut allergy at an early age, and has arrived at today for an Oral Food Challenge.
Also at CUH, we follow Surgical Oncologist Mark Corrigan as he operates on Antoinette.
In November, 2024, Antoinette received a breast cancer diagnosis and had a mastectomy on her right breast. Subsequent tests revealed that she has a variant of the BRCA gene, which increases the risk of several cancers, especially breast cancers.
Antoinette has made a big decision. She is in CUH to remove her healthy breast and to have a reconstruction.
Meanwhile, a five-year-old girl is being rushed to CUH. She is barely conscious and her vitals are poor. The Emergency Department team is standing by….
Surgeon James Harty is also preparing for major surgery. Patient Brian Murphy requires a total femur replacement to try and keep him walking.
