Cork family among first taking part in new series of Ireland's Fittest Family
Camogie star and uber competitor Anna Geary is back on the show, after a year out to have a baby, and will go head-to-head as a coach and mentor with fellow Cork sporting legends Sonia O’Sullivan and rugby star Donncha O’Callaghan, as well as Clare hurling legend Davy Fitzgerald.
Olympian Sonia will be sprinting back into action for her second season, bringing her world-class experience and determination.
Donncha is mentoring the Parsons family from Dublin, Davy is mentoring the O’Connells from Waterford and Sonia is mentoring the O’Neills from Meath, while Anna’s family for this week, the Magners, are from Cork.
The Magner family is close-knit and competitive, with parents Ciara and John leading the way in fitness.
Ciara took up running at 30 to join the action, while John, a former soccer player, transitioned to triathlons for a gentler challenge.
Their sons are equally active playing gaelic, soccer, swimming, cycling and running.
Presented by Laura Fox, the upcoming series of Ireland’s Fittest Family features brand-new challenges including The Drop Zone, and Raft Rage: The Rivals. 16 families from all over Ireland will be put to the test.
This week’s families will face The Drop Zone and Slingshot.
The scores of the first two events are combined, the winning family goes through to the next round, and the family at the bottom are sent home. Then the other two face Ireland’s Fittest Family’s water eliminator.
The 12th season of Ireland’s Fittest Family was due to begin in the autumn, but RTÉ postponed it following the death of one of the participants, Dubliner Cillian Flaherty, 15, after the filming had been completed.
An RTÉ source said: “The Flaherty family have watched the series and given their full support for it to go ahead.
“We once again extend our deepest condolences to all those affected and thank our audience for their understanding.”
