Cork woman back on our screens with new series of 10 Things to Know About

Tralee Bay is a “jewel in the crown” of Irish marine life and home to some of these rare species.
In the first episode of a new series of 10 Things To Know About on RTÉ1 on Monday at 8.30pm, we meet the researchers tracking and tagging sharks to help better understand and protect these amazing creatures.
The series is co-presented by Cork woman and Echo columnist Kathriona Devereux.
Also in the episode, we leave the surf behind and head for the turf of Wicklow, to meet data scientists using AI and satellites to monitor our precious peatland and protect Ireland’s extraordinary natural resources. Plus, Fergus McAuliffe spreads the tale of centuries-old bog butter.
The Irish coast also takes centre in the next episode of Heated on RTÉ1 on Tuesday at 7pm.
Coastwatch is seeking to map all seagrass meadows in our waters so they can be protected and nurtured. This is an exceptional plant for removing carbon, cleaning water and supporting biodiversity. Finding and validating a meadow isn’t straightforward though, as one volunteer discovers off the Clare coast.
Also in Heated, how a passion for home brewing sparked an unlikely thought process to turn by-products from beer and whiskey production into a sustainably made plastic.
Plus, the term pre-loved is applied to things that have obvious second hand value – like cars or vintage clothes. One resourceful charity has created a market for something different – pre-loved kitchens and bathrooms. Last year, Habitat For Humanity saved 250 kitchens from landfill and found new homes for them.
