The Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Mary Linehan Foley hosted a civic reception to recognise the outstanding achievements of the group; the highest honour the Mayor of the County can give to a group or individual.

The Cork Federation of the ICA, which is the largest women’s association in Ireland, celebrates its 90th anniversary this year. The group held its first meeting in Bandon in 1936.

The County Mayor also recognised Kilbrittain GAA club, Aghabullogue GAA club, National Ambulance Service Worker Patrick McCarthy, and Kingfishr at two special receptions last week.

“It is a privilege to recognise and celebrate the remarkable achievements of these local heroes,” the County Mayor said. “On behalf of the people of County Cork, I wish to express our sincere appreciation to Killbrittain GAA Club, Aghabullogue GAA Club, the Cork Federation of the ICA, Kingfishr and Patrick McCarthy for their commitment, determination, and hard work. I also want to acknowledge the vital support of their families and supporters, who have stood alongside them throughout their journeys.”

Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Moira Murrell, added, “This week, we formally recognise and celebrate the achievements of Killbrittain GAA Club, Aghabullogue GAA Club, the Cork Federation of the ICA, Kingfishr, and Patrick McCarthy, together with the wider communities whose support and commitment have been integral to their success. On behalf of Cork County Council, I extend our sincere and warm congratulations to all of you. Comhghairdeachas libh go léir.”
