Brenda’s The Echo Mini Marathon Diary: Week 5

One and a half weeks until the big day! Honestly, I feel like I’m getting married or something with the level of excitement building up.

Last week I was knocked back with covid and it really took the wind out of me, so I was absolutely delighted to get back to training yesterday. The buzz and lift I felt after that run reminded me exactly why I love doing this.

I’m heading home today for some side work, and I plan to run around the marina tomorrow morning, just to soak up the atmosphere all by myself before the big day. There’s something so special about that route - it gives you a taste of what’s to come when thousands of women gather together to take part.

I keep saying this, but it’s worth repeating: don’t worry about times. A girl messaged me last night in a panic saying she signed up but couldn’t run. I told her, it doesn’t matter! You won’t remember whether you walked it, jogged it, or sprinted it. What you will remember is the atmosphere, the energy, and the friends you made along the way.

And if you’re reading this thinking, “I’d love to do it, but it must be too late,” the answer is no - it’s not too late at all. Registration is still open, and you don’t need fancy runners or high-end gear. Just come comfortable, bring your best self, and be ready for a day of celebration, camaraderie, and girl power.

The countdown is well and truly on - I can’t wait!
