Brenda is an avid runner and says she’s thrilled to be taking part in this year’s event.
I’m so delighted to say I’m back again this year for The Echo Women’s Mini Marathon — and I honestly can’t wait.
Last year’s event was pure magic. The atmosphere, the colour, the laughter — there was a buzz in the air from the moment we arrived until the very last person crossed the line.
This year it’s 6k — just 1k more than a 5k — and believe me, it’s absolutely do-able.
That’s the beauty of this event: it’s for everyone. You don’t need to be a seasoned runner, and you certainly don’t have to sprint it. You can walk, jog, run, or mix it up - whatever suits you.
I still remember when I first trained for my very first 5k.
It took me six weeks, I never believed I could run, but crossing that finish line was one of the most rewarding moments of my life.
I’ll never forget it — the sense of pride, the buzz, the “I actually did it!” feeling.
If I can do it, so can you. If you’ve ever thought about it, start now. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself later.
It’s not a competition; it’s a day out. A chance to move your body, meet new people, and soak up the atmosphere.
If you’re thinking, “I’m not fit enough” — stop that thought right there. You’ve plenty of time between now and September 21 to get a few walks or jogs in, and you’ll be amazed at what you can do on the day.
I’ll be using it as part of my training to keep me fit, but for me, in the lead-up to my next big run, it’s about so much more than just clocking the kilometres. It’s about community, positivity, and celebrating women of all ages and abilities.
So lace up, grab a friend, and join me. I promise you, you’ll finish with a smile on your face — and maybe already be planning to come back next year.
