IF you are doing any bit of running or walking, I find having my smart watch really useful. I am not competitive when it comes to running (any more!) but it is nice to have a small element of achievement when it comes to sports.

I usually set out on a run, decide I’m going to do a certain distance and aim for a certain time, usually 5km in under 30 minutes.

I also find it great for pacing myself, I used to be notorious for starting off too quickly and running out of steam too early but with my watch I can keep a steady pace all the time. This has made a huge difference to the distance I run and also to how much more I enjoy it, I’m not huffing and puffing like I used to.

Choosing a watch depends on a lot of things, I wanted one that could operate without my phone so it has built-in GPS and also music so I can set off with my Garmin watch and my wireless headphones and I’m all set.

HOW TO TAKE PART...

The event ‘6K Your Way’ is free to register, on https://theechominimarathon.ie/ You can complete it by walking, running or jogging. When you are registering you will have the option to purchase a souvenir medal. We are encouraging people to do the 6K on September 20, adhering to all government guidelines. Upload your results on the website and download a certificate of completion. If you can’t complete your 6K on September 20 you can also do it from September 18 to September 27.
