Leinster and Ireland full-back Hugo Keenan has been ruled out of action until the new year.

Keenan underwent hip surgery following this summer's British and Irish Lions tour of Australia. He scored the winning try in the second test to give the Lions the series victory.

That means he will miss big November tests for Ireland, against New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.

It has also been confirmed second row Joe McCarthy has been ruled out of action until November.

McCarthy picked up a foot injury during the first test against the Wallabies, and will be in a race against time to be back for the November series.

November could see Leinster and Ireland captain Caelan Doris return from injury, having been out since May.

Doris picked up a shoulder injury in Leinster's Champions Cup semi-final defeat to Northampton, and missed out on the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia.
