Updated HSE App will help Cork patients manage appointments from smartphones

Patients in Cork and Kerry can now view their local hospital and screening appointments directly in the app.

The HSE has announced an update to the HSE Health App, making it easier for people across Cork and Kerry to manage their healthcare appointments and access health information from their smartphone.

Patients in Cork and Kerry can now view their local hospital and screening appointments directly in the app.

Participating hospitals are Cork University Hospital, Cork University Maternity Hospital, Mercy University Hospital, South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital, Bantry General Hospital, Mallow General Hospital and University Hospital Kerry.

Patients attending participating hospital or community sites will be able to view upcoming, past, and cancelled appointments in the app — telemedicine appointments will be added in a future update.

If patients experience issues viewing their appointments, they are directed to contact HSE Live (Freephone: 1800 700 700), to assist in resolving the issue.

Screening appointments

Other new features on the app include BreastCheck screening appointments, week-by-week healthy pregnancy information and functionality to update allergy information, while there will also soon be access to the QUIT Smoking Programme.

Over the coming months, the app will also introduce the ability to check referral status and waiting times as well as access to self-care resources for quitting smoking and managing chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease.

Dr Andy Phillips, the regional executive officer of HSE South West, said he is “so pleased to see the development of the HSE Health App, which I use for my family.

“The latest updates make our services much more accessible for people in Cork and Kerry. People across our communities will be able to book their appointments much more easily and access information that guides them to our services. This helps to make good on our commitment to value our patients’ time.

“I encourage everyone to download and use the app. I’m very interested in getting feedback on how we can keep improving it.”

Step forward

Sonya Cotter, the integrated health area manager for North Cork and East Cork, said: “People in Cork can now manage their appointments with ease, and our teams are seeing how digital tools like the HSE Health App can reduce admin time and improve communication. It’s a great step forward for healthcare in the South West.”

The app is available for download on the App Store and Google Play.

To access personal health information, users must have a verified MyGovID account. If people do not want to or cannot use the app, they can still access HSE services in the usual way.
