Armagh experienced penalty heartbreak once again as Donegal were crowned Ulster football champions this afternoon.

Shaun Patton saved the sudden death spot kick after extra time ended 0-20 to 0-20 in Clones.

The Orchard County also finished runners up to Derry after a shootout last year.

Jim McGuinness' men have now picked up two trophies in his first year back as manager.

Meanwhile, Dublin were made to work hard for their latest Leinster senior football championship title this afternoon.

Underdogs Louth led the All Ireland champions at half-time, but experience proved decisive in the end with the Dubs coming out on top by 1-19 to 2-12.

It means a 14th title in a row for Dessie Farrell's men, but it's the lowest margin of victory since 2012.

Louth boss and former Dublin great Ger Brennan said they backed themselves against their fancied opponents.

Laois and Carlow couldn't be separated in their opening round game of the Tailteann Cup today.

Laois led by seven points at half-time before being pegged back to a 2-17 to 2-17 draw in O'Moore Park.

Elsewhere, Antrim kicked off their campaign with a 4-12 to 2-13 win over Tipperary.
