Boy dies after being hit by car in Co Mayo

A child had died after they were struck by a car in Crossmolina, Co Mayo, on Sunday.

The incident occurred on the N59 at Eskeragh at 11:20 am.

The pedestrian, a boy, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

The body of the deceased has been conveyed to the mortuary at Mayo University Hospital.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The local coroner has been notified.

The scene is preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local traffic diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Road users and pedestrians with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area between 10.40 am and 11.40 am on Sunday 21st June 2026 are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
