Over 40 people to appear in court in relation to Dublin shoplifting

More than 40 people are due in a court in Dublin on Wednesday following an operation targeting shoplifters.
It was part of a targeted initiative in the south east of the capital.
Since early May, Gardaí have been working with local shops and businesses across southeast Dublin to identify suspects involved in retail crime, initiate prosecutions and bring offenders before the courts.
It has led to a dedicated unit being set up, and 41 people are due before Dún Laoghaire District Court this morning charged with shoplifting and other associated offences.
Another 15 juvenile suspects have been identified and referred through the Youth Diversion Programme.
Chief Superintendent David Kennedy, DMR East, said: "An Garda Síochána in the DMR East will continue to focus on retail crime using intelligence-led policing to disrupt criminal networks, prevent thefts, and, importantly, support local retailers and businesses.”
Phase two of the crackdown on retail crime in the area is to begin in the coming weeks.
