Gardaí arrested a truck driver who was 11 times over the legal alcohol level after crashing through a hoarding at a busy service station in Co Kilkenny.

Gardaí received reports of a truck driver “being all over the road” by motorists travelling along the M9 on Sunday evening.

They said that the incident involving an articulated heavy goods vehicle (HGV) first began on the motorway.

The truck driver was intercepted at a service station in Paulstown, Co Kilkenny, just off the M9, after he attempted to drive through a hoarding at the service station.

The man was arrested by members of the Thomastown Roads Policing Unit on suspicion of drink driving after providing a breath sample.

Gardaí in a statement said the driver provided a breath sample which measured “11 times the legal limit of 9 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath”.

No one was injured in the incident.

The driver is due before the courts at a later date.
