One person has died, and three people have been taken to hospital after a Bus Éireann bus crashed in Dublin city centre, Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan has told the Dáil.

The incident took place at the junction of North Earl Street and Marlborough Street.

A number of garda cars are on the scene, in addition to Dublin Fire Brigade units and ambulance personnel.

A tent has been erected around the crash site, and a garda cordon has been put in place.

The front window of the bus has been smashed.

Luas Green Line services were suspended between Parnell Street and St Stephen’s Green because of the incident.

Talbot Street is closed from Gardiner Street. Marlborough Street is closed from Cathal Brugha Street.

A number of ambulances have already left the scene this afternoon, with the street set to remain closed for some time.

Bus Éireann has confirmed one of its buses was involved in an incident - it was not in service at the time.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Ray McAdam, said his thoughts are with those who have been injured and with their families at this difficult time.

"I want to reassure Dubliners that the situation is being actively managed, and I would ask the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services to carry out their work."
