Two men racing their cars on a busy Co Donegal road have been arrested and will appear in court.

The pair were caught speeding on a 60kp/h road in Letterkenny on Sunday night.

They were nabbed by gardaí on patrol as part of a Bank Holiday road safety campaign across the county.

The drivers were apprehended on the four-lane main route into Letterkenny town centre.

A Garda spokesperson said “As part of our Road Safety and Traffic Enforcement Campaign over the weekend, Buncrana Roads Policing Unit were conducting patrols last night when they observed two vehicles racing each other at high speeds on the Four Lane Road (N56) in Letterkenny.

“Both vehicles were stopped. The drivers were arrested and charged to appear in court.”

A series of drivers have been caught across Donegal over the Bank Holiday weekend with drivers caught doing 146kp/h in a 100kp/h zone and another doing 98kp/h in a 60kp/h zone.

A number of other drivers were caught driving while under the influence of cocaine and cannabis.

All were arrested and will appear at future sittings of the local court.
