10 days of free Halloween events in Dublin get underway

10 days of free Halloween events have been launched in Dublin's north inner city.

A ghost train along the Royal Canal Greenway, film screenings at Diamond Park, and a carnival on Sean McDermott Street are among this year's events.

Noel Wardick from the Dublin City Community Co-Op said the Big Scream festival has helped to dramatically cut the number of Halloween-related disturbances in the area.

"Halloween, at one point in time in the inner city, was associated with anti-social behaviour, dangerous bonfires, and at one stage burning cars and various things.

"Now it's an event that's looked forward to by the whole community."

Dublin City's Lord Mayor, Councillor Ray McAdam, launched this year's North Inner City Big Scream Halloween Festival.

McAdam led the launch parade down Seville Place, finishing up on the canal walkway.

The 10 days run from Tuesday, October 21st, until Halloween on October 31st.

The full programme of events also includes best dressed dog competitions, mask making workshops, scary yoga, 'horrible history' walks, and singalongs.
