An improvised bomb, drugs, cash and electronics were seized by gardaí in planned searches targeting an organised crime gang in Limerick on Tuesday.

“As part of ongoing investigations into the activities of an organised criminal group operating in Limerick, Gardaí from the Limerick Crime Unit, supported by multiple agencies and specialist units, conducted a planned operation in the Childers Road area of the city,” a garda spokesman said.

“During the course of the operation, a number of residential properties and adjoining lands in the New Crescent area were searched.”

“An improvised explosive device (IED) was discovered and safely dealt with by the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.”

The Garda operation also yielded €5,550 in cash, quantities of cocaine and crack cocaine, and a mobile phone device.
