A Garda has been seriously injured in a dangerous driving incident in Co Louth.

The officer had been investigating a van which was parked up in the Clonmore Estate in Ardee shortly after 4am on Friday morning, when it was driven at him.

The Garda sustained serious but not life threatening injuries, and was transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

The scene is preserved for a technical examination, and gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Garda welfare services have been put in place for the injured member and his colleagues.
