Cork’s return to Division 1 football will begin with a home fixture against fellow promoted side Meath, but it is what follows that could make the opening-day encounter one of the most important games of Cork's campaign.
The draft 2027 Allianz National Football League fixtures, which have been circulated to counties and remain subject to ratification, see the Rebels welcome Meath to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday, January 24.
While there are no easy assignments in the top flight, John Cleary is likely to be satisfied to avoid one of the division’s established powers on the opening weekend.
A clash with Mayo, Kerry, Galway or Donegal would have represented a daunting introduction to life back among the elite after Cork secured promotion from Division 2 earlier this year.

Instead, the Rebels face a Meath side that achieved promotion alongside them, offering Cork a realistic opportunity to get points on the board immediately.
The significance of that fixture is heightened by a demanding run that follows.
Just seven days later, Cork are due to travel to Ballybofey to take on Donegal in what is traditionally regarded as one of the toughest away assignments in Gaelic football. The Rebels did win above there this year in the championship.
Things do not get much easier after the first league break. Cork face another difficult away trip to Armagh in the Box-It Athletic Grounds.
By the midway point of the campaign, the Rebels will already have tackled two of the division’s most challenging away fixtures, making a positive start against Meath all the more important.
Cork then return to Leeside to host Roscommon before another major test awaits when they travel to Hastings Insurance MacHale Park to face reigning All-Ireland champions Mayo at the end of February.
The fixture supporters will immediately look for, however, is the visit of Kerry to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday, March 13.
It will be the first Division 1 league meeting between the counties since 2016 and is certain to attract huge interest.

Cork conclude their campaign away to Galway in Pearse Stadium.
While the schedule remains provisional, the draft fixture list underlines the importance of the opening round.
A win over Meath would provide valuable momentum before consecutive away trips to Donegal and Armagh.
