A man, aged in his 50s, has died following a single-vehicle collision in Co Mayo on Monday evening.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the fatal road collision, which occurred on the R323, Knock Road, at Bracklaghboy, Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the collision, involving a single vehicle, which occurred at approximately 10.10pm.

The sole occupant of the car, a man aged in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body has been removed to the mortuary at Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar where a postmortem examination will take place "in due course", gardaí said.

The road is currently closed for technical examination by Garda forensic investigators, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 9.30pm and 10.30pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
