Two men and a woman have been arrested in connection with the assault of a man in Monaghan town which has left him in a critical condition.

A man in his 40s received life-threatening injuries and was brought by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

He has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin and his condition is described as critical.

Two men and a woman, all aged in their 20s, were arrested on Wednesday, and are currently being held in a Garda station in the county.

Gardaí continue to appeal for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Anyone who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the Park Road area between 10pm and 11pm is asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

Gardai say investigations ongoing.
