Gardaí have charged the man (30s) arrested in relation to the murder of a man at a five-star hotel in Co Laois on Tuesday night.

He is due to appear at Portlaoise District Court this morning at 10.30am.

The man in his 60s, a US national, was found dead in the leisure centre of Ballyfin Demesne hotel just hours after arriving in Ireland.

A man in his 30s, who was known to the victim and also from the United States, was arrested shortly afterwards, and remains in
Garda custody.

A family liaison officer has been appointed to support the family of the deceased.
