A young girl is being treated in hospital after being attacked by a dog in Co Kerry last weekend.

Gardai said they were made aware of the incident that happened in Lixnaw in the north of the county on Saturday, August 17th.

They said a child was seriously injured following a dog attack, and that the dog has since been destroyed.

“She is currently receiving treatment at Cork University Hospital,” they said.

“The dog has since been destroyed by local veterinary services.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
