Dublin Airport will not appeal decision blocking purchase of QuickPark

The operator of Dublin Airport has confirmed it will not appeal a decision blocking it from buying the former QuickPark facility in Santry.

DAA said it could take years to appeal, and that new car parking spaces are needed urgently.

Last week, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) refused DAA permission to buy the former Quickpark facility over concerns it would lead to higher prices for consumers.

The car park, situated around a mile from the airport, has 6,200 parking spaces.

The airport operator said the appeals process could take years and that its passengers cannot wait that long. It said there's an urgent need for spaces - with all of its car parks fully sold out this Easter weekend.

In a statement, the DAA added: "At the same time, daa encourages all parties to ensure the prompt delivery of the BusConnects and MetroLink projects which will provide sustainable transport options for passengers looking to get to and from Ireland's national airport, taking tens of thousands of car journeys off the roads each year."
