Man (30s) dies after car crashes into motorway barrier

A man in his 30s has died after a crash on the M1 motorway.

The incident took place on the northbound section of the motorway at 7.30am on Wednesday when a car hit a barrier close to junction 4.

The driver and sole occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been taken to the mortuary at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown.

The M1 northbound is currently closed between junctions 4, Donabate, and 5, Balbriggan South. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.
