Drew Harris says ‘no risk’ to documents during GSOC office burglary attempt

By Cillian Sherlock, PA

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris said there was “no risk” of confidential documents being accessed during an attempted break-in at the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC).

A burglary was reported at the premises on Abbey Street Upper in the early hours of September 7th.

GSOC’s primary responsibility is to deal with complaints made by members of the public concerning the conduct of members of the police force.

Speaking after a Policing Authority meeting, Mr Harris said: “My understanding is that their records and documentations were properly secured.

“There was no risk actually to that material.

“GSOC obviously holds very sensitive material in terms of both complainants but also their investigations and also in respect of intelligence.

“An an independent entity, they provide security that deal with that.”

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
